Не секрет, что использование англо-английских словарей здорово повышает уровень английского за счет постоянного его использования.
Выложу тут все он-лайн English-English словари и ресурсы, которыми я пользуюсь буквально каждый день.
Рекомендую все словари потестить (как насчет слова nepotism?) и понять, какой вам нравится больше. И положить эти словари в закладки.
Четверка лучших:
1. Dictionary Reference com - там есть все: и thesaurus, и origin, и примеры, и дефиниции из разных источников. Ни разу меня не подводил.
2. The Free Dictionary - есть всё: идиомы, акронимы, legal, medical, financial dictionary. И игры тоже есть.
3. Dictionary cambridge org - отличный словарь, который я часто использую для студентов начальных уровней - там очень простыми и ясными словами коротко объясняются даже сложные понятия. Незаменимая вещь. Отличные предложения-примеры.
4. Merriam-Webster com - хороший словарь, есть игры, Spelling Bee смотрели фильм? Вот игра есть такая.
6. English Pronouncing Dictionary - это без дефиниций, чисто как произносятся слова. Очень полезная штука.
7. Etymology com - без дефиниций, этимология, то есть, происхождение слов. Когда знаешь корни слова, легче запомнить.
8. Ask Oxford com - как словарь мне не нравится, а вот есть интересное что:
9. Peevish co uk - Slang Dictionary - огромное количество ссылок на ресурсы по слэнгу, причем разному слэнгу - rap, London, Australian, drug related. А внизу страницы можно посмотреть слэнговые словечки по буквам алфавита.
10. Pain in the English com - прекраснейший сайт про английские заморочки. Там тусят очень интересные и грамотные люди, они много знают и всегда интересно комментируют. Вопросы задают нетривиальные. Можно и свой вопрос задать. Очень клевый сайт!
