BAD CD / DVD Reader is a simple application that lends you a hand in accessing or copying data from scratched discs, be they CDs or DVDs.
Of course, this kind of program could come in handy for all of us, especially since it was developed to address such an important issue, but BAD CD / DVD Reader fails to do so more or less.
While it manages to target both beginners and professional users with the help of a simple and easy to use interface, BAD CD / DVD Reader doesn't quite impress when it comes to accessing data stored on unreadable discs.
On the other hand, if it indeed manages to get past the scratches and view the content of a CD or DVD, the application offers dedicated tools to copy either the whole disc or just a given folder with a single click.
In addition, BAD CD / DVD Reader doesn’t include a settings menu to allow users to configure the application; another downside it that the help manual included in the package is basic and provides limited information on its features.
For instance, it's pretty impossible to know for sure how exactly it's supposed to read scratched CDs and DVDs because the help file says nothing about this procedure.
Obviously, if we were to vote for some improvements, we'd choose not only a refreshed interface, with a more user friendly approach, but also advanced settings and a comprehensive help manual.
The conclusion is rather simple: BAD CD / DVD Reader is a decent application, but don't expect it to do wonders. It crashes a lot on Windows 7, but works okay on older versions of the operating system.

The last update of this plugin was in 2004, and the features of the CD Reader Plugin for Winamp may be obsolete nowadays, since Winamp has been updated many times since and improved its playback options.
Nevertheless, those using an older computer and version of Winamp may still find this add-on helpful.
The plugin uses a function called RAW_READ, or “read long”, which extracts digital audio data from CDs, and two level interfaces, ASPI and Win32. Most applications play CDs by reading one data sector at a time, but this plugin makes use of an efficient CDDA navigation system and manages to reread defect sectors.
The CD Reader Plugin for Winamp is easy to install and use. You need to copy the “in_CDReader.dll” file to the Plugins subdirectory, located at “C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins”. At the same time, the original Winamp CD plugin needs to be deactivated. Instead of deleting it, you can change its extension (“in_cdda.dll.off” for instance).

CD Reader is a Windows freebie capable of recovering data from corrupted or damaged discs, be they standard CDs or DVDs.
It’s almost impossible not to figure out how to use the program because CD Reader comes not only with an intuitive GUI, but also with a small number of features, most of them grouped in a single window.
The main window of the app shows the disc content and lets you configure the target disk, priority, the number of retries and auto skip file count. If you’re okay with the standard settings and you don’t want to change anything, just press the “Copy Selected Files” button and CD Reader should take care of everything all by itself.
A bunch of options are however available too, enabling you to set the default output folder, priority, retrying number, language and enable auto log clearing.
A help sections does exist, but it all comes down to a plain text document that shows brief information on the available file.

И часто складывается парадоксальная ситуация - на звуковой карте, установленной в компьютере, может быть очень качественный DAC (цифро-аналоговый преобразователь, 16-ти, а иногда и 18-битный), однако за счет соединения через аналоговый выход CD-ROM используется встроенный DAC привода (нередко - всего лишь 12-битный). Проблему можно было бы решить, соединив цифровой выход CD-ROM с цифровым входом звуковой платы, однако цифровой вход есть только у сравнительно дорогих звуковых плат. В результате в большинстве случаев качество воспроизведения падает более чем заметно, а ситуация кажется безвыходной.
Примечание: автор позаботился и о тех, кто предпочитает использовать проигрыватели Apollo 35 и Sonique 1.xx - для них так же доступны соответствующие plug-in.
