    The Eraser

    The Eraser

The Eraser is the debut solo album by Radiohead lead singer Thom Yorke. released on 10 July 2006. The album debuted at #3 on the UK Albums Chart and at #2 on the Billboard 200 in the United States, selling over 90,000 copies in its first week. Critical reception to the album was generally positive. The Eraser was nominated for both the Mercury Music Prize and the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album in 2007.

The song "Analyse" is featured in the ending credits of the film The Prestige [ 1 ] and "Black Swan" in A Scanner Darkly .

    Background

On 11 May 2006, Yorke posted, without explanation, a link to the site theeraser.net on the Dead Air Space section of the official Radiohead website. Two days later, in an email sent to the owners of several Radiohead fan sites through W.A.S.T.E. (Radiohead's online shop), Yorke announced he was making an album and revealed a few details: it was produced by Nigel Godrich. comprises of songs written and played by Yorke alone, is "more beats and electronics". [ 2 ]

In an email to a Radiohead fan site, Yorke said, "I don't wanna hear that word solo", [ 3 ] and asserted that the work was done with "their blessing", whilst the spokesman asserted that Radiohead were not breaking up. [ 4 ] Radiohead launched a tour to play their own new material, nearly coinciding with the announcement. Yorke said that some of the tracks for The Eraser had been "kicking around in the background". [ 4 ] Two songs, the title track and "Black Swan", use samples of recordings made by other members of the band.

    Production

The Eraser was produced, arranged and engineered by Nigel Godrich. The title track, "The Eraser" was co-written with Radiohead member Jonny Greenwood. and is based on piano chords (namely Cadd6 and Dadd6). Yorke revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone . that the piano parts played by Greenwood were recorded on a dictaphone at his house; "A year and a half later, I had to own up that I had sampled them, cut them into a different order and made them into a song [laughs]. Is that all right? Sorry, Jonny." [ 5 ]

"Analyse" was inspired by a blackout Yorke experienced in Oxford. Yorke used to live on a "historical street" with 1860s built houses in central Oxford and upon arriving home one night, the street suffered a power cut. Yorke explained; "The houses were all dark, with candlelight in the windows, which is obviously how it would have been when they were built. It was beautiful." [ 5 ]

"Black Swan" dates back to the Kid A sessions, which "has this tiny, shredded segment of something", a sample created in 2000 by Ed and Phil. which Yorke "sliced [. ] into bits." [ 5 ]

Yorke stated that "And It Rained All Night" has an "enormously shredded-up element of "The Gloaming" [from Hail to the Thief ]", which Yorke recalled creating in New York because he couldn't sleep one night as a result of heavy rainfall. Yorke commented on the bassline of the song that it created "little pockets of excitement that [he'd] missed for so long." [ 5 ]

"Cymbal Rush" is derived from "Try to Save Your Prize", a musical track from The Most Gigantic Lying Mouth Of All Time . Yorke reported that "Cymbal Rush" contained an element he had for three years, one little note from which he could "hear the melody in there straightaway." However, he said that "if you played it to anyone else without [him] singing it, you'd think, 'What's he on about?'" [ 5 ]

Thom Yorke said much of his songwriting on the album was personal, but also inspired by the issue of climate change. Yorke was a spokesman for Friends of the Earth 's "The Big Ask" campaign to reduce carbon emissions, and Radiohead played the first gig of their 2006 tour at a benefit for the group (performing "Cymbal Rush" before the album was announced).

In describing his motivation for releasing the album, Yorke said, "I've been in the band since we left school and never dared do anything on my own, and it was like, 'This is getting stupid.' It was like, 'Man, I've got to find out what it feels like,' you know? And it was good. It was a really good time." [ 6 ]

Regarding "Harrowdown Hill ", Yorke said he had "already written part of it when he realized it was about David Kelly. a chemical weapons inspector in Iraq who committed suicide in 2003 after being connected to a leak of British intelligence about weapons of mass destruction." [ 7 ] In an interview with The Observer . Yorke said that "Harrowdown Hill" was "the most angry song [he'd] ever written in [his] life" and stated that he wouldn't discuss the background of it; "it's not for me or for any of us to dig any of this up. So it's a bit of an uncomfortable thing." [ 8 ] In an interview with The Globe and Mail . Yorke said that he had been "feeling really uncomfortable about that song lately" but felt that "not to write it would perhaps have been worse." [ 7 ] Yorke also notes that "'Harrowdown Hill' was kicking around during 'Hail to the Thief', but there was no way that was going to work with the band." [ 5 ]

    The Eraser - Batman Wiki

    The Eraser

The Eraser was the chosen alias of Lenny Fiasco. who turned to crime after living his college days under constant mocking and taunting by his classmates. He wore a costume of a pencil. Fiasco is a professional at covering the tracks of other crimes. For a 20 percent cut, the Eraser will 'erase' the evidence of another crime.

    History Edit

Lenny Fiasco was a college classmate of Bruce Wayne (Batman), and was continually mocked by his fellow students for all the mistakes he made in class. The few people who remembered Lenny always pictured him with eraser in hand, correcting his mistakes. The only girl Lenny ever wanted was classmate Celia Smith. and he planned to take her to the school's ice carnival. Lenny was crushed when she chose to go with Bruce Wayne. Feeling quite bitter, he turned to a life of crime, developing an eraser costume that could eliminate all evidence from a crime scene.

He took out advertisements as the Eraser in The Secret Underground . a periodical aimed at Gotham City 's small-time criminals. For a twenty percent commission, before taxes, the Eraser offered to remove all clues at a crime scene before a police investigation could be conducted: "Don't take chances! Let the 'Eraser' erase every clue from your crimes! Only 20% of job--before taxes! Write to Box 19611. General Delivery!" In his suit and full head mask, the Eraser resembled a living number two pencil. He did a commendable job, and the police were baffled at the lack of clues at a series of bank robberies.

The Eraser's cameo in Batman: R.I.P.

They called on Batman, who disguised himself as an organ grinder and hired the Eraser for a mock robbery. Eraser then removed his mask, showing how the eraser helmet mounted on it was treated with a special compound that removes everything—even the almost invisible impressions made by the soles of shoes. Eraser recognized Bruce Wayne through the disguise, explaining that for years he hat sat next to Bruce attending college classes, smelling the special shaving lather he used, and he was able to recall the smell when he sniffed it again. Placing a hand on Bruce's shoulder, Lenny revealed that he confirmed Wayne' identity because an individual's skin acid makes any shaving lather he used react differently than someone else's. The villain then told Bruce that he had became a criminal because Bruce shattered his dreams of going out with Celia Smith. Bruce didn't even remember Celia's name, prompting Eraser into a rage. He knocked Bruce out with sleeping gas, and Bruce awoke at Eraser's headquarters, where the Eraser had constructed a recreation of the college ice carnival. Robin then arrived on the scene and distracted Eraser long enough for Bruce to change into his Batman identity. What followed was academic, Batman beat up Eraser and sent him to jail. In jail Batman presented Fiasco with a giant eraser, and advised him to make a new start in life with a clean slate. Lenny didn't seem too amused with Batman's joke. (Batman #188)

The Eraser has made minor cameo appearances in Post-Crisis continuity. He first turned up in Ambush Bug: Year None #4 (2008).

Lenny Fiasco as the Eraser later returned as part of Bruce Wayne's imagination in Batman: RIP. The Eraser also recently appeared in Neil Gaiman's 2009 story "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?" which shows the effects of Batman's death on his enemies and allies.

    Powers and Abilities Edit

The Eraser wore shoes tipped with pencil-point blades that could also emit a sleeping gas. He wore a mask topped off with a giant eraser that could rub out evidence from crime scenes like footprints and fingerprints.

Maybelline The Eraser

    25.01.2013 в 18:28

Mysteries of the Eraser Tool — Revealed!

Contributed by Brenda Sutherland, Illustrator Team Rowing Captain

You might wonder how this could be tied to Pathfinder, and more importantly, how an understanding of its underlying technology will benefit you. Let me explain it this way; the tool can’t read your mind, although it might sometimes seem that way as it erases some objects and not others. I for one love a great mystery, but I think this tool will be even more useful to you if I demystified it by sharing how it works, what it’s limitations are, and the best ways around those limitations.

If you have used the tool, you have probably noticed that it’s very similar to a calligraphic brush. In fact, it can even be used with a pressure sensitive tablet to vary its size, angle and roundness. Double clicking on the tool opens up its Option dialog, where you can customize it’s settings.

The options dialog isn’t the only place were settings can be changed. Just like the Calligraphic Brush, the diameter can be changed by using the bracket keys, ] and [ respectively to increase and decrease the size.

If you have already made the assumption from this that the tool is in fact, creating a Calligraphic Brush stoke then you get a gold star! That’s exactly what it’s doing. The next thing it does is expand the brush stroke in the same way you would manually by choosing Object>Expand, to make it a simple or compound path, and no longer a brush stroke. Then the next step is it runs Pathfinder to cut away the Eraser Tool created object from either the current selection, or if there is no current selection, all valid objects that are touched by the eraser object. Whew, that’s a lot of steps! But the Eraser tool does all of this behind the scenes, so all you need to think about is what you want to erase. As simple as this tool is to use, the results are not always exactly what you expect. Now that you understand how it works, let me give you some tips on how to get the results you are after ALL the time:

    • The Eraser tool works based on selection. When you have an object selected, it will erase only that object. When there is no object selected it will erase any valid object it comes in contact with (valid meaning an object type that is erasable). Objects can be on any layer, or in a group, but they must be unlocked.
    • Objects that are not erased by the Eraser tool are: Images, Text, symbols, Graphs, and Gradient Meshes. The preview works on all objects, so it looks like these objects will erase, but on mouse up, they are not changed.
    • To erase Type, you can expand or create outlines first. To erase Symbols, you can expand or break link first. To erase Graphs, you can ungroup first. In all of these cases, the objects will no longer retain their type, symbol or graph attributes.
    • Some objects will erase, but their appearance changes due to rerendering of attributes applied to the object. For example when a brush stroked object is erased, it is broken into separate paths. The brush stroke is then reapplied to each path, which can drastically change its appearance. To erase a brush stroked object and not have it’s appearance change, choose Object>Expand Appearance first.
    • When objects have an effect, like Roughen, applied to them, the effect will be reapplied to the new path created by erasing. This will look very different from the preview you see when you first drag the eraser over the object. In order to get the same results as the preview appearance, expand the appearance of your objects with Live Effects, like Roughen, applied.
    • When objects have strokes applied to them and you do not want the stroke rendered for all edges of the new paths created by erasing, then expand the object first. If the object has multiple fills or strokes you will need to expand appearance first, then choose object>expand to expand the strokes.

    Maybelline The Eraser Микро-Корректор: kuzmanafanya

    Maybelline The Eraser

    • End of support for Eraser 5.x
    • With this release, as announced earlier, support for Eraser 5 will be discontinued. Eraser developers will also not entertain requests to fix problems with the 5.x codebase, as it has reached the end of its useful life. v5 has served the community well, but the age of the code is already showing and the associated problems (of software incompatiblity) have been in recent years difficult (and expensive) to resolve.
    • Eraser 5 will still be downloadable from SourceForge, and patches can still be submitted (but may not be applied), however no more official builds will be made available in future and support on the official channels (e.g. Support Forum and Trac) for Eraser 5 will cease. 5.8.8 will be the last officially released Eraser 5 version from The Eraser Project.
    • Download/Hashes
    • It is important to note that users downgrading from 6.1 should delete their Task Lists (%APPDATA%\Eraser 6\Task List.ersx) before running Eraser 6.0.x as that will result in a crash of 6.0.x builds. If you are upgrading from an earlier 6.0.x build, and especially if you have defined custom erasure methods or Plausible Deniability files, if upon upgrading Eraser refuses to start after the upgrade you can try deleting the task list (the same file as mentioned earlier) and if that fails, the HKCU\Software\Eraser\Eraser6 registry key. Deleting the latter will result in a reset of the Eraser settings to defaults.
    Changes for v6.0.5.1114 RC5 - v6.0.6.1376
    • Eraser 6 stable has been released after being for 2 years in development. Eraser 6 sports a completely revamped user interface, and Windows XP/Vista/7 support out of the box. Eraser 6 now allows users to use the context menu in Windows Explorer to erase Unused Space on drives with UAC on under Windows Vista and 7. The On-Demand and Scheduler panes in Eraser 5 has been replaced with the integrated Task Scheduler in Eraser 6 which allows for simplified management of tasks. The biggest and most significant change since rc5 is the addition of FAT directory cleaning and various usability improvements.

    • Retirement of Eraser 5
    • This release of Eraser brings about sad news for some - Eraser 5 support will end after the release of Eraser 6.0.7. Technically, since this Eraser build is the 6th release of the version 6 this is Eraser 6.0.6. Thus, the next release of Eraser will see the end of Eraser 5 support. This is mainly to ensure that critical bugs within Eraser 6 are fixed before Eraser 5 is retired.
    • The reason for not supporting the old code is that the old code was not designed to run on the operating systems of today and functions do not work as expected. Eraser 6 was redesigned to ensure that it will match the coding standards and fit into the software ecosystem like any other "modern" application.
    Changes for v6.0.3.847 RC3 - v6.0.4.875 RC4

    • 866 Fixed spurious crash upon adding tasks using the shell extension Joel
    • 867 Implemented automatic elevation when unused free space erasures are requested from the shell extension. A quick note: what this does is the request for unused space erasures automatically elevate themselves. However, since the erasures are still done by the running Eraser instance which may not have been elevated, the erasures may still fail. The behaviour is however different when there is no Eraser instance running: the spawned instance of Eraser will automatically be elevated. Joel
    • 868 Show an error message when the user cancels the elevation request, instead of throwing out an "unknown error" Joel
    • 870 All binaries are now timestamped on top of being signed Joel
    • 871 Error codes should be better dealt with now, we use the Marshaler which is built into .NET for error handling
