Opera for Mac with language support

Opera Software ASA today released Opera 6 for Mac Beta 3 with language support for German and Japanese. This is the first time the Macintosh version of the Opera browser is available in languages other than English.

"Our extensive language support on Windows has been very important for our success on the platform, and we have been working hard to implement this feature for the Mac version as well," says Mary Lambert, product line manager desktop, Opera Software ASA.

Currently, Opera for Windows is available in 32 different languages. Thanks to Opera's modularity, only the small differences between the Windows and Mac versions need to be translated to bring each language to the Mac platform. As a result, users can expect support for additional languages in the future.

"We are excited to be able to provide the benefits of Opera for Mac to our Japanese and German users, but rest assured, there are more languages in the pipeline," says Lambert. "We hope our English, German and Japanese users will help us improve the quality and usability of Opera for Mac during this testing stage."

Along with internationalization, some of the other product improvements in Opera 6 for Mac Beta 3 include improved rendering performance, improved font switching for better support of international Web pages, some UI tweaks and of course a great deal of fixes since Beta 2.
