Before we discuss 3GP Codec, we should learn which is 3GP. 3GP is a multimedia container format defined by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP ) for use on 3G mobile phones.
3GP is a simplified version of the MPEG-4 Part 14 (MP4) container format, designed to decrease storage and bandwidth requirements in order to accommodate mobile phones. It stores video streams as MPEG-4 Part 2 or H.263 or MPEG-4 Part 10 (AVC /H264 ), and audio streams as AMR -NB, AMR-WB, AMR-WB+, AAC -LC or HE-AAC.

Find the correct codec to play the video file. A codec is software that's used to compress or decompress songs, videos and other digital media files. Windows Media Player and other media-playing programs often use codecs to play and create digital media files. Codecs are third-party software, and by default Windows and the Media Player automatically find and install the most popular codecs, like MP3 and Windows Media Audio/Video. But although many nonpreinstalled codecs are safe and legal, Microsoft neither recommends nor endorses any third-party codecs or codec installers. The company does, however, recommend searching for a codec by name on the Internet. In this case, you would conduct a search for "3GP codec." Choose among the many software sites offer free downloads of the codec.
Read the specifications to ensure that the codec is compatible with your computer's operating system. Codecs can be written for 32-bit or 64-bit operating systems. If you install a 32-bit codec on a 64-bit operating system, or vice versa, it's possible that Windows Media Player might not be able to play any files that require the codec. If you don't know your computer's bit rate, you can find it by click the "Start" button in the lower left corner of your desktop, then click the "My Computer" icon. After that, click the "View system Information" button on the left side column.
Download and install the codec. After you've found a site from which you can download codecs free, follow the site's instructions for downloading the codec. Generally you will click on a download link to copy the file to your computer's hard drive. Depending on your computer and method of Internet connection, this could take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes.
After the file has downloaded, click the 3GP file that you wish to play. With the codec installed, the file should now open and play via Windows Media Player.
